However, there’s a deeper pattern woven into the fabric of nature and faith—one that reveals why our calendar begins in winter, and what that means for understanding divine timing.
The Calendar’s Hidden Wisdom
Many spiritual seekers argue the calendar should begin in spring, when nature visibly flourishes. They’re wrong. Furthermore, understanding why reveals a fundamental truth about life, faith, and manifestation.
Birth doesn’t start at emergence. Instead, it starts at conception.
Most animals in nature breed in fall. Similarly, seeds fall from trees and plants during this season, settling into the earth before winter arrives. Nature already plants the potential for next year’s life, already predetermined by January 1st. Consequently, the calendar doesn’t mark when we see life—it marks when life encodes itself into existence.
Spring isn’t the beginning. Rather, spring reveals what darkness already decided.
Divine Timing and Faith: Winter’s True Purpose
Winter isn’t a season of rest or gentle hibernation. Instead, winter judges.
It ruthlessly sorts, separating the wheat from the chaff. Moreover, only what carries genuine strength and true potential survives winter’s harsh conditions. Weak genetic lines face elimination. Additionally, seeds without resilience don’t make it to spring.
Winter doesn’t nurture. Winter tests.
It’s not cruel—it’s efficient. Nature operates without sentimentality. It asks one question: Can you survive? Furthermore, if the answer comes back no, winter removes you from the equation.
The Spiritual Parallel
This isn’t just biological reality—it’s spiritual truth.
Darkness tests faith. Moreover, survival—not comfort—brings prosperity. The divine timing embedded in natural cycles reflects a deeper spiritual mechanism: potential must prove itself worthy of manifestation.
As I explored in my Christmas reflection, we observe the birth of Jesus in winter’s darkest moment—not by accident, but by divine design. Light doesn’t just arrive. Instead, testing refines it. It survives. Ultimately, it proves itself against the harshest conditions.
Divine Timing Cannot Be Manipulated
The solstice—the moment light begins its return—represents divine orchestration that no one can control or rush. You can’t negotiate with winter. Similarly, you can’t manipulate the sun’s cycle.
This embodies prosperity and manifests God’s will. Consequently, receiving His blessing comes not through avoiding challenge, but through surviving it.
Divine Timing and Faith: Faith Through the Sorting
In The Light Returns, I wrote about faith as the foundation of manifestation. However, faith isn’t passive hope. Instead, active trust during winter’s judgment defines faith.
Believing the light will return while standing in complete darkness demonstrates faith. Moreover, trusting divine timing when every visible sign suggests failure proves faith. Ultimately, maintaining alignment with God’s will when the sorting mechanism actively tests your resolve exemplifies faith.
Glory Be to God
Everything that happens—perceived good or challenging—serves a higher purpose. Winter’s harshness isn’t punishment. Rather, it prepares. Furthermore, it ensures only genuine potential manifests.
Who are we to question the process OR to demand spring without surviving winter?
The Path Forward
The calendar begins in winter because life begins in darkness. Not visible life—encoded life. Consequently, potential waits to face testing.
As we observe the Messiah’s birth in winter’s darkest moment, remember: the celebration doesn’t arrive in spring’s comfort. Instead, winter’s judgment delivers it. And faith survives.
That’s the pattern, the promise, and the path.
Winter will test you. However, if your faith proves genuine, if your potential stands real, if your alignment with divine will holds true—you’ll survive.
